MAHINDRA THAR 2021|AUTO MOTIVE
Mahindra Thar is one of the most iconic SUVs under the house of M&M in India. Over two decades of presence, the Mahindra Thar has never lost out its charm from the off-roader enthusiasts. Recently, Mahindra introduced the second-gen Thar in the market, which not only pulls the hearts of the 4x4 auto fans, but also those who enthuse a daily commuting SUV.
The Mahindra Thar is known for its rugged and utilitarian design. With the new Mahindra Thar, Mahindra has evolved the design to make their new SUV more contemporary than theoutgoing model. Be it design, chassis, transmission or the cabin, everything on board the Mahindra Thar 2020 is new. The proportions are now wide while the edges have been subtly softened to keep the new Mahindra Thar in line with the classic look of the original. While comparisons between the Mahindra Thar and the Jeep Wrangler are unavoidable, there are plenty of design accents to clearly distinguish the Indian off-road beat from the American.

In terms of style, the new Mahindra Thar’s front is what will catch your eye. The 6 slat blackened grille exhibits a caged look that complements the wider fenders and halogen headlamps. Even the bonnet latches have been improved for a posher feel and easier operation. In profile one can spot the massive 226mm of ground.
The tail-mounted spare tyre takes centre stage at the rear, flanked by modern LED tail lights. The rear door opens in a two-stage manner that makes it more convenient to operate.

With the evolutionary Thar 2020, barebones interiors of the previous generation are now a thing of the past. Replacing it is an interior that has been designed with an outdoor lifestyle in mind. In fact, Mahindra even says that you can hose down the cabin thanks to removable drain plugs and a ‘drizzle resistant’ touchscreen display. Build quality in the new Thar 2020 is significantly improved over the previous generation Mahindra Thar.
There are several small but significant additions in the interior that show that a lot of thought has gone into making the new Mahindra Thar ergonomic. The switchgear is IP54 dustproof and waterproof which is a boon for electric components. The power window buttons are placed on the centre stack since doors are entirely removable. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system provides a host of connected tech features, navigation and much more. The new multi-function steering wheel has audio, Bluetooth and Cruise control buttons and feels good to use with its chunky yet stylish design. The front seats are well-built with good lumbar support and quite a lot of head and leg room.
Getting into the second row is slightly tougher due
to the shorter door opening. However, once seated the rear has enough space for two adults. The new Mahindra Thar is available with a hardtop that makes it feel like a regular car, or a removable soft-top for those off-roading adventures.
